Overview:
The Environmental Management and Sustainability Intern with the National Park Service will assist the Environmental Protection Specialist with all aspects of the Environmental Management and Sustainability programs. Mentoring and training will be provided.
Responsibilities:
The intern will work under the supervision of the Environmental Protection Specialist at Zion National Park. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Environmental Management System (EMS) management
Data collection for EMS programs including, but not limited to, energy use, solid waste diversion, and hazardous waste management
Monitoring EMS effectiveness
Implementing corrective actions for EMS and environmental audits
Outreach program for communicating sustainability efforts
Drafting annual report and sustainability briefs
Developing creative communication tools for visitors
Creating posters or other tools for staff
Assist with Green Fleet bike program
Qualifications:
This position requires an interest in or experience with environmental and sustainability programs. Good oral and written communication skills are a must. Creativity would also be a welcomed skill. Candidates should be able to work on tasks independently and as part of a team. The position may involve hiking, lifting, carrying, bending, biking, walking, and standing. The candidate should like the high desert environment as outdoor tasks may occur in the extreme heat of southern Utah.
